I love going to hawaii - I have fun shopping, eating the "local" foods and most of all - just a time for me to relax. This time we haven't visit this island for three years and there are a lot of changes on this island.
I know because of the economy, this is one reason. I noticed when I went to Ala Moana, this shopping mall has changed into a highend mall. All the locals are going somewhere else to shop. When I was there, the mall was practically empty. I saw all the shops inside there, I told myself I can go home to shop at these store ie., Nordstrom, Bebe, Chanel, etc. The only thing I always go to Ala Moana was the food court. The food court is still there but I wonder how long before more stores leave.
I love going to this island is to eat all the "local" places we know. Since we last been there, the selection have increased. The big guy cousin took us to a couple of new places. I love it. The "local" places are places only the people on the island knows. One place they took us is called St. Louis Drive In. It is actually a place on a corner, mama and papa place, you can order the "house special" (teri chicken, fish, teri beef, local vegetables, and of course rice). I had ordered a roast pork plate (roast pork, heavy gravy, and rice) - real rich and heavy. You don't get that at home. The only thing I didn't care for is the Chinese food on the island - they are American-Chinese food (chop suey, egg foo young, etc.). Also they rename some Chinese dishes - siu mi is called pork hash. Fried won ton is called gow gee.
Again I had fun going to the swap meet. You need to set aside time to go down row and row of stalls. After awhile everything looks the same - be patient. Also know what you want because after awhile, you can't remember why you were there. I got burnt here because I forgot to latter myself with sunscreen. The sun really get blazing hot there - you are at the Aloha Stadium parking lot. The asphalt really get hot after awhile.
The girls had fun here because they love the swimming pool here on this island. Go figure. This is our hotel pool on Memorial holiday - crowded. On Tuesday, the crowd left so the girls had the run of this pool. The pool had two big slides.
